YPA makes strides in Luweero, Strengthens Bonds, and Educates Farmers

The YPA team, led by Managing Director Obed Ben, embarked on a successful two-day visit to Luweero on May 13th and 14th, 2024. The trip aimed to solidify relationships with existing groups and spread knowledge about goat farming, marking a significant step in YPA’s mission to empower farmers and enhance agricultural practices in Uganda.

Reaching out to Hundreds

During the visit, the YPA team engaged with over 400 members across 16 different groups from various locations within Luweero. This extensive outreach was designed to strengthen ties between YPA and local farming communities, providing them with valuable insights into modern goat farming techniques and practices.

UniTrust Cooperative: A Collaborative Effort

To ensure a comprehensive and informative experience for the participating groups, YPA partnered with the UniTrust Cooperative Company. This collaboration underscores YPA’s commitment to working alongside other organizations, enhancing the overall impact of their outreach programs.

Spreading the Gospel Across Uganda

Luweero marked the first stop on YPA’s broader itinerary, which includes visits to Kikuube and Kisule Butanza as initial groups. The organization has plans to extend its reach to other regions such as Jinja, Mityana, and beyond. Through these efforts, YPA aims to foster a spirit of agricultural empowerment nationwide, encouraging sustainable and profitable farming practices across Uganda.

Leadership and Education

YPA’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Charles Sempijja, provided participants with a detailed overview of the organization’s background and mission. His presentation highlighted YPA’s dedication to improving agribusiness through education and practical support. The Managing Director, Mr. Obed Ben also addressed the participants, offering valuable insights and guidance on effective goat farming techniques.

Beyond Education: Tangible Support

PA’s commitment to the local communities went beyond mere education. The team provided tangible support in the form of resources valued at 3,250,000 shillings, equivalent to five goats. This investment is intended to equip the participating groups with the necessary tools to embark on successful goat farming ventures, ensuring they have the practical means to implement what they have learned.

Financial Literacy: Empowering for the Future

In addition to agricultural education, YPA offered a financial literacy workshop. This workshop equipped participants with essential knowledge and skills to manage their finances effectively, complementing the agribusiness education efforts. By integrating financial literacy into their program, YPA is helping to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the participating farming groups.

Gifts of Gratitude

The YPA team was deeply moved by the generosity of the local communities. In a heartfelt gesture of appreciation, they were presented with gifts of matooke (green bananas), avocados, and trays of eggs. These tokens of gratitude underscore the positive relationship between YPA and the local farmers, reflecting the mutual respect and cooperation fostered through the outreach program.

A Fruitful Endeavor:

The two-day visit concluded on a high note, with a significant number of participants officially registering as YPA members. This surge in membership signifies the positive impact of YPA’s outreach program and its potential to transform the agricultural landscape in Uganda. The success of the Luweero visit highlights the effectiveness of YPA’s approach to farmer education and empowerment, paving the way for similar initiatives in other regions.

YPA’s ongoing efforts in Luweero and beyond are set to create lasting changes in the agricultural sector, promoting sustainable farming practices, financial literacy, and strong community bonds. Through continued collaboration and support, YPA is well-positioned to drive agricultural development and improve the livelihoods of farmers across Uganda.
