The Mighty YPA Farm Visit: A Journey of Learning and Collaboration.
On Sunday, January 26th, the YPA community embarked on an enriching and insightful farm visit that left everyone inspired and informed. The day started early, with our dedicated farmer already at the office by 5:00 AM, ensuring that everything was in place for the exciting day ahead.
The first bus departed at 6:00 AM, followed by four more buses filled with eager participants ready for a day of learning and exploration. By 9:00 AM, we had all arrived in Gomba, and the first group was already on site, ready to kickstart the day’s activities.
Our day began with an insightful session led by President of Low Income Earners, Obed Ben, who shared invaluable knowledge on agribusiness, specifically focusing on goat farming and pasture management. The group discussed various techniques, including an experiment of using a machine to improve pasture quality, and exchanged ideas on how to grow sustainable and profitable goat farming ventures.
After the enriching discussions, we enjoyed a delicious lunch that provided the perfect respite before the afternoon sessions. Post lunch, clients were assigned to different farms based on their ID numbers Farm 21, 22, and 23 where they got handsbon experience and observed best practices in action.
By 6:00 PM, it was time to wrap up the visit, and we all set off back to Kampala, reflecting on the day’s lessons and the valuable connections made.
The YPA Farm Visit was more than just a day out of the office; it was an opportunity to deepen our understanding of agribusiness, learn from each other, and strengthen our commitment to supporting and empowering farmers. We look forward to more such visits that foster growth, collaboration, and innovation within our community.
