Sprouting Curiosity: A Farm Experience Rooted in Nature

Witness firsthand the excellence of YPA goat breeding on a captivating farm visit to one of our farms in Gomba. This past Heroes Day, a dedicated group of YPA farmers embarked on an unforgettable journey to one of our Gomba district farms, their enthusiasm palpable from the pre-dawn hours. (We were not surprised that some arrived as early as 5 am!) Throughout the day, our knowledgeable YPA staff served as invaluable guides, ensuring a seamless and informative experience for all.

The exploration commenced with a visit to our designated quarantine area. Here, our farmers gained a deeper understanding of the importance of biosecurity measures in safeguarding herd health. Led by our esteemed Chief Veterinarian, a paragon of expertise in the field, the group received a comprehensive briefing on various goat farming practices and the crucial ability to identify signs of illness in their animals. (A goat’s posture can speak volumes, farmers! Heads held neither high nor low may indicate a health concern.)

The quest for knowledge continued as we delved into the intricacies of goat health. Our farmers were equipped with insights into the seven major caprine diseases and the paramount role of a robust immune system. YPA goats receive a comprehensive vaccination regimen of seven immunizations, significantly bolstering their resistance to disease.

The itinerary progressed to a captivating showcase of the YPA breed itself. Our farmers had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the exceptional qualities of these prime animals, meticulously bred from a powerful combination of Boer, Kalahari, and Mubende goats. (Envision robust, healthy offspring renowned for their superior meat quality!) Security measures also took center stage, with our farmers impressed by the meticulously maintained, well-fenced perimeter and the vigilance of our dedicated security guards. (Our goats rest easy knowing Fort Knox-level security is in place!)

As a cherished YPA tradition, a delightful culmination awaited our farmers. A delectable feast featuring succulent roasted YPA goat meat was presented, offering a tantalizing opportunity to savor the unparalleled flavor and quality of our breed. (This is your chance to indulge in the difference, esteemed farmers!) By nightfall, our heroes departed for Kampala, brimming with satisfaction and equipped with a treasure trove of practical knowledge to elevate their goat farming endeavors to new heights.

Intrigued by the prospect of joining the esteemed YPA family and embarking on your own odyssey of agricultural discovery? We hold monthly farm visits, designed to foster a deeper understanding of our practices and empower our YPA farmers. While unforeseen circumstances, such as disease outbreaks, may necessitate occasional rescheduling, the safety and well-being of our herd remains our paramount concern. Stay tuned for upcoming farm visit dates and prepare to embark on an unforgettable experience that will transform your approach to goat farming
